May 30, 2006 Mom and Dad are in town running last minute errands. Jeremy and John are loading our sound system and instruments into the trailer. Caleb is outside mowing and weed-eating. The girls are all industriously cleaning ~ well, I have been...up till now!
What could all this mean??? A Trip!!! Where??? Colorado!!! And let me tell you, after a couple of weeks with temperatures in the 90-100 range, as well as the onset of allergy season, we are looking forward to being in those cool, beautiful Rockies more than...well, more than last year's squirrel is looking forward to this year's nut!...or something along those lines... We've a jam-packed schedule while we are there, with friends to see, music to play, trails to hike and John's graduation from high school to celebrate! Yeeeeeeeeeeee-haw!!!! We have been working on our music a lot lately...the boys figured out that the band has put in around 18 hours a day worth of practice for the last couple of weeks...course that's all of our hours combined, but it sounds so impressive that way!!! Our style has changed a bit, because, you see we lost our lead singer/guitar player! That's right, folks, Jesse has quit the band and gone on to pursue his own dreams and horse training full time. So, it's down to only seven "children" and Mom now, which is still several more than most bands we know. Jeremy and Caleb are doing a fine job singing lead and taking turns with the guitar and we've worked up some new material...we are all excited to see how our first concerts go!!! And before that... In April, we really enjoyed our trip to Wisconsin and our weekend with some dear friends of ours. One of the highlights was the push-up contest in which the "Old Guy" (I won't mention any names!!!) soundly beat all of my brothers and some of the other men there. Hurray for the Old Guy!!!! It was cooler than last year and there was ice on the lake, but that didn't stop six brave souls from being baptized during the family conference! Brrrrrr!!!!! But I know it was worth it for them!!! On the way home we stopped overnight with the Harsches, and enjoyed our visit with them on their beautiful farm. Funny how things work out sometimes...we traveled up on Anna's birthday, home on Tera's birthday, and tomorrow we head for Colorado on John's birthday - just a side note, you understand! The Bost family came and did April's concert on our Stage next door, only it was moved to a church because of rainy weather. They did an outstanding job, and it was nice getting to know them. At the end of April we drove up to our grandparents' house on Lake Norfolk in Arkansas. From there we drove up to GospelGrass in the Ozarks...quite a nice weekend in spite of the bad weather and low attendance. Those that did come to the festival were treated to some great music throughout the weekend, with bands all the way from Carolina and Kentucky to Arizona and all in between. Great fun...and we really enjoyed meeting some new friends, who we hope to see again soon. We went back to Grandma and Jack's and remodeled their master bedroom, bath and hall way. The guys did the dry-walling and laid the beautiful new floor, Tera and Jesse textured and we girls peeled wall paper and painted. Grandma chose such pretty colors...soft green, periwinkley blue, and then lilac-lavender purple for the cupboard doors, which Grandpa and the boys weren't too sure of, but we gals all liked!
After the work was done we came home, did a couple of concerts - one of which was on the Stage Next Door...how's that for an original name!!! It was a nice evening, with a good turn out - and God even took care of the mosquitoes for us!!! Thanks, Kate, for the picture!
Which brings us right up to now...when the girls are all cleaning industriously (I'm going, I'm going!!! I was somewhere between cleaning out the fridge and keeping the laundry going)... next entry will have stories of those cool Colorado Rockies!!! Please keep us in your prayers! God bless you all,
